Autumn / Winter 2015
The collection is inspired by the idea of digitally rendering reality and organic elements. It’s a commentary on how we experience nature in a contemporary online world, the very means of preservation is at times what drives a rift in our interaction with nature, and our distraction with social media keeps us in our heads and oblivious to the simple miracles that are happening right before our eyes. We intentionally made the imagery pixelated. This takes the organic subject and breaks it up into its digital information; it is literally a cyber-rendering of nature.
The colour in the collection is inspired by the indigenous winter blooming Erythrina tree which can be seen all around Durban. It is an intense vermillion, and what I found interesting is the digital rendering needs to use a multitude of shades to immolate the colour and still in nature it is more vibrant and luminous
